Contemporary computers process data as bits, which can be set to either a 0 or 1. Quantum computing views data a qbits, based on quantum mechanics, which can set to 0, 1, or a superposition of those values, creating the capacity for multi-dimensional data vectors. Net effect: exponentially faster computing. The military and private industry are frantically researching quantum computing. Among the barriers is quantum entanglement, the need for qbits to be constantly aware of each other's state, which is a challenge over long distances.
