Examples of extranets are dashboards that expose supply-chain management or enterprise resource-planning data to suppliers, or self-service performance-reporting sites for clients of marketing firms. Many extranets share proprietary information and so must be tightly secured, but increasingly social-networking software is creating more open community extranets between companies and their customers.
