Desktops and Workstations

Laptops may be cooler, but for many businesses, traditional desktop computers are still the backbone of their work force's computing. Desktops often are considered commodities, with a life cycle of about four years, though frugal businesses find ways to stretch that service cycle. Workstations are more powerful than PCs and typically devoted to tasks that require intensive processing, such as graphic design and CAD. Managing and standardizing the configuration of desktops systems is a key challenge for IT.
