Hardware is broad term that encompasses virtually all computing devices, from mainframes to laptops, as well as network switches and access points. Managing hardware consumes much of IT's resources, and proving the business value of new hardware often is a challenge, since it tends not to radically alter business processes. Managed infrastructure options, including paying for hardware access as a service, are emerging, but IT still has to manage the boxes.
