Enterprise software is a broad definition of powerful, usually expensive applications design to capture and model business data across a large organization. Enterprise software typically runs in conjunction with relational databases and often needs to span silos of data within an enterprise. Leading categories of enterprise software include ERP, CRM, sales-force management, supply-chain management and knowledge management. Open source vendors are beginning to challenge established vendors, including SAP, Oracle and Microsoft.
