Patch management is one of the most important, and tedious, aspects of IT administration. Operating system and software vendors are constantly releasing patches to correct potentially critical security flaws in their products, all of which can create compatibility and performance issues with other software and systems. Testing patches in a controlled environment before full rollout is a must. Numerous patch-management automation tools are available for larger shops.
