The larger the organization, the more crucial master data management becomes -- and the more difficult. MDM encompasses processes and tools that constantly aggregate, match and consolidate data from various systems in order to maintain one master record, thereby maximizing consistency. Mergers and acquisitions, in particular, can make maintaining MDM difficult, as can poor control over data classification schemes.
