Application Security Efforts to Grow
Dark Reading on January 12, 2007
A report from Gartner points to a significant class of vulnerabilities that are going unaddressed. Most security efforts, the report says, are aimed at the network layer — making sure that people don't enter the network illicitly. A whole other dimension — scanning Web applications for security vulnerabilities — is largely going unnoticed. Today, the report says, only 10 percent of enterprises use application source code scanners. One of the authors quoted in the report says that 60 percent of enterprises will do so by 2009. Apparently, it isn't cheap, which is why application detection/assessment will grow as well. The story provides some clues as to the shape of the coming market, which appears likely to be as complex as other security sectors.
