Incremental Approach Can Help Ease SOA Pain
AjaxWorld Magazine on November 14, 2006
A NetManager study based on data from Aberdeen Research offers some interesting insights as to what is preventing companies from adopting service-oriented architecture. As always, cost-conscious companies worry about ROI. Forty-seven percent of them cited "unknown value for ROI and return on assets" as a barrier to broad adoption. Another major factor was a "lack of skills and training," cited by 50 percent of respondents. According to a NetManager executive, failed SOA projects are often characterized by poor planning, overly ambitious expectations or a lack of developer buy-in. Taking an incremental approach to SOA will minimize cultural challenges and increase the odds for success, says an Aberdeen analyst.
