eBay, Skype Not Hitting the Right Notes
International Herald Tribune on November 12, 2006
It's been more than a year since eBay bought Internet telephone provider Skype. The good news: Skype is enjoying continued success and the number of people downloading the software has more than doubled — to 136 million — since the sale. The daily rate of new downloads has risen from 130,000 to 250,000. The problem is that analysts are unhappy with the lack of the promised synergies between the two entities. One says that eBay's management has been "disappointing." The story points to changes eBay has made and discusses cultural issues between the two companies. EBay's U.S. stock has fallen 15 percent since the deal was announced.
