Efforts Underway to Improve Lagging Video Search Technology
internetnews.com on October 20, 2006
If Google loves YouTube.com so much, why is its video search still so bad, asks this article. In fact, none of the major video-sharing services, from MSN Video to Yahoo Video to Myspace, do a good job letting users search through video content. Relying on words included in the site's metadata, the searches don't crawl through the video itself. One of many companies trying to change this is Podzinger, which is developing technology that would treat each spoken word in a video as a keyword that can be picked up by a search.
