Don't Forget Basics When Evaluating Social Networking Tools

This no-nonsense take on the use of so-called Web 2.0 collaboration tools like wikis and blogs within the enterprise avoids the breathless "what are you waiting for?" tone that characterizes so many other pieces on the emerging technologies. Instead, it cautions companies to be cognizant of the limitations of such tools when they are used inside corporate firewalls. A social software consultant interviewed here says some tools are not appropriate for business use because they aren't designed to scale. When evaluating Web 2.0 tools for your business, she advises focusing on three primary factors: the number and type of users, size of the deployment, and intended uses for the tools.
