Windows Mobile Third-Party Apps Are Insecure
msmobiles.com on August 14, 2006
In something of a technical expose, this writer, in rather breathless prose, suggests that third-party software that runs on the Windows Mobile operating system is insecure. The piece changes gears rapidly and offers a technically-oriented discussion of the flaws that is best understood by security and IT staffs. The writer says that some of the third parties reacted to his questions in a proactive way and wanted to find out about the problems so that they could be addressed. Others, however, were dismissive or even threatening. Conclusions: The main problems include the storage of sensitive data as plain text, improper handling of data and, above all, the creation of the false impression that data is secure. Stronger coding and greater security is required.
