4.1 Million Laptops Under Dell Recall
CBC.ca on August 15, 2006
The recall of 4.1 million Dell laptops announced this morning will be the largest ever involving the Consumer Products Safety Commission. Sony batteries within the laptops have reportedly caught on fire — video of such incidents has circulated on the Web, drawing a lot of attention to the latest tale of mobile power sources gone wrong. Sony and Dell will share the expense of the recall, but exact details are not public at this time. Dell and Sony aren't the only ones with battery troubles; the CPSC says it knows of more than 300 incidents between 2003 and 2005 in which mobile device batteries have caught on fire or exploded.
