RFIDsec's New Chip Adds New Privacy Protections
RFID Journal on June 21, 2006
A new RFID chip from start-up RFIDsec, slated to be available in early 2007, adds privacy protection. The tags will use the RFIDsec Secure Protocol to enable a "silent" mode after the point of sale. When a consumer grants permission, the tag will be available to support after-sale communications through the use of a 128-bit key whose ownership will, in effect, be transferred to the consumer. Challenges include the need for RFID interrogators on both ends (which may limit its use to B2B) and a 10 percent price differential compared to other tags.
