Microsoft Gains in BI Battle
Intelligent Enterprise on June 06, 2006
All at once, Microsoft seems poised to become a real force in enterprise BI. Its new PerformancePoint Server 2007, unveiled last week and due to beta in November, will leverage SQL Server 2005's analysis and reporting capabilities to feed data into the Excel component of Office 2007. According to Microsoft, only 20 percent to 30 percent of potential BI users are actual users, and the familiar Excel interface is meant to boost those figures. Also to be integrated into the package: instant messaging, chat room and document sharing for collaboration on the problems BI exposes.
