Lemon-Law Rights for PC Owners
PCWorld.com on February 21, 2006
This is a typical request from a laptop owner to a person with some pull — in this case, an editor with PC World. The individual's new Sony S480 notebook began freezing intermittently. A Sony technician visited and replaced the hard drive. The problem recurred. The unit was sent to Sony, but the owner was unable to get an update by phone. The editor checked into it and found that the problem is a faulty motherboard, which was replaced. The warranty was extended. The consumer asked whether a PC lemon law exists. The answer is no. However, far broader protection exists under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act, which is detailed here.
