Networking: IT Training a Retention Issue
United Press International on January 30, 2006
According to the Computing Technology Industry Association, while companies want employees with up-to-date IT skills, they haven't been willing to pay for the training workers need to attain them. Eighty-eight percent of IT professionals surveyed by CompTIA say they pay for professional development out of their own pockets — an average of $2,200 a year. Companies willing to pick up at least some of these training expenses could reduce staff turnover and help ensure that employees develop skills that are most needed. While demand for open source development, peering, co-location and interconnection skills is growing, Microsoft administration remains the most-coveted skill, according to Robert Half Technology.
