Open Source Software Will Permeate Enterprise Software, Says The 451 Group
Tekrati on December 12, 2005
The day is coming when every piece of enterprise software will include open source components, according to a special report recently released by The 451 Group. Thus, enterprise software vendors who ignore open source could be missing a huge growth opportunity and subjecting their businesses to significant risk. This report overview discusses that risk as well as the four common obstacles to open source adoption: software quality (or the lack thereof); availability of commercial-grade support; fear and uncertainty disseminated by proprietary software companies; and confusion regarding different license regimes. The trend toward open source will mean changes for venture capitalists as well.
