    Top 25 Companies for Work-Life Balance 2013

    Let’s face it, employees are spending more time these days working than enjoying life itself. That’s why Glassdoor has just released its annual top 25 companies for work-life balance.

    Flexibility, work culture and innovation were noted as key attributes for gaining balance by the winners for 2013. The top 25 companies were selected based on thousands of company reviews and ratings shared by employees.

    SAS Institute came in at number one, with an average satisfaction rating of 4.5 out of 5.  Employees say the company is very customer-focused as well as employee-focused. Employees enjoy a good work/life balance and the company offers countless benefits (not just health insurance…) like aquatic center, onsite childcare, subsidized meals at the onsite cafes, gym, and list goes on and on and on.

    National Instruments joins the list in second place, receiving a rating of 4.3 out of 5. Employees feel that the company supports personal initiatives and encourages people’s many interests, both work- and hobby-related.

    With a rating of 4.1 out of 5, Slalom Consulting has employees who are also very satisfied with their work-life balance. Employees say that the company provides a highly flexible work environment.

    MITRE came in at fourth this year, with an average satisfaction rating of 4.1 out of 5.  Work-life balance is very real and everyone is encouraged to take time off and keep their work hours under control.

    At number five, Orbitz Worldwide was also rated at 4.1 out of 5. The company provides flexible hours, and one employee stated that they have a “dynamic leadership team who has a clear vision and are able to inspire – not just in the U.S., but in Europe where [the employee] work[s].”

    Scottrade joins the list in sixth place with a rating of 4.1 out of 5. Employees say the company provides a low stress, team environment, and a clear break between work and personal life.

    Employees at Mentor Graphics also gave the company a 4.1 out 5 rating. Employees say Mentor Graphics is a great company with an “old school” approach. The company offers opportunities to learn new skills and provides employees with lots of perks like a gym and rec center, healthy subsidized lunches, and lots of green space.

    FactSet also received a work-life balance rating of 4.1 out of 5. Employees said FactSet provides “excellent benefits and extremely flexible scheduling (i.e., if you need to work at home, take time for a medical appointment).”

    This year Agilent Technologies received a rating of 4.1 out of 5. Employees say the company has a laid back culture, great people and “great options to balance your work and home life.”

    Also with a rating of 4.1 out of 5, Nokia joins the list in tenth place. Employees say Nokia provides a great work environment, lots of perks and great work-life balance flexibility.

    In eleventh place, MathWorks was rated 4.1 out of 5 by employees, as well. Employees feel this is a company where you can make a difference every day. While the work can be challenging and working from home is not a standard practice, employees say there are many perks and rewards and work-life balance is a priority.

    Autodesk received a rating of 4.0 out of 5. Employees say the company has “great people to work with and products that make a real impact.” The company has a strong culture of collaboration and provides a flexible working schedule.

    Also with a rating of 4.0 out of 5, AOL makes the list at number 13. Employees say the company is a great place to work and “really cares about employee welfare, as well as helping out the community.”

    Citrix comes in at number 14 with a work-life balance rating of 4.0 out of 5. Employees say the company provides very flexible work schedules, with options to work from home.

    In fifteenth place, GlobalLogic received a rating of 4.0 out of 5. Employees say that GlobalLogic is a “good company to work with for good people.” The company provides flexible work schedules, telecommuting and puts lots of emphasis on training and mentoring.

    Yahoo! also received a rating of 4.0 out of 5 from employees. Employees say Yahoo! is a great company to work for, with many perks and learning opportunities.

    With a rating 4.0 out of 5, Tieto employees say the company is a great place to work. The company offers numerous development opportunities and a great work-life balance.

    Master Card received a rating of 3.9 out of 5. Employees say the company is family oriented, has good benefits, and the people are great to work with.

    Employees at Morningstar rated the company with a 3.9 out of 5. The company promotes a good work-life balance and doesn’t expect employees to work long hours.
