Two major trends are reshaping the role of IT in the workplace. The first is the rise of mobile computing, which is being driven largely by end users buying their own devices and bringing them to work.
The second is the increasing number of applications that are available in the cloud, which is leading to the consumerization of IT as end users increasingly go outside the enterprise to access these applications and services.
A global survey of 336 people conducted by Citrix shows how strong these trends already are. Many think they will ultimately turn IT organizations into departments that are dedicated to governing access to these services rather than the actual builders of them.
To what degree that happens is still open to conjecture. But the impact on IT is sure to be profound as these trends accelerate in the months and years ahead.
