WorkLight Adds Google Android Support

One of the bigger challenges facing enterprise IT is the proliferation of mobile computing devices. In an ideal world, IT departments would build an application once that could be deployed not only on mobile platforms, but standard desktops and notebooks as well.

That's the thinking that went into development of WorkLight, an application development environment for creating widgets and other mobile applications that can run on multiple platforms. Today WorkLight extended the platform to add support for Google Android smartphones.

The WorkLight development environment can be deployed on premise or invoked using a software-as-a-service model that allows developers to create widgets that automatically compile for the targeted platform, thereby eliminating the need to build widgets using cumbersome code that is hard to maintain or some proprietary development environment that is optimized for only one platform.

According to WorkLight CEO Shahar Kaminitz, as time goes on, IT organizations are going to combine the simplicity of using JavaScript, HTML and CSS with a secure modern development framework to create applications that give users a common experience regardless of the device they are using to access an application.

Pricing for the WorkLight development environment is based on the number of end users accessing applications using the system. Pricing starts at $4 per user per year, but each user can access any number of applications.
