SolarWinds Simplifies SLA Management

SolarWinds today moved to simplify the management of service level agreements with the addition of support for new technologies from Cisco.

According to Josh Stevens, vice president of technology for SolarWinds, Cisco has made available technologies such as iCMP Path Echo and iCMP Path Jitter as a core element of the Cisco IOS operating system. By integrating with these new services in version 3.5 of the Orion IP SLA Manager, SolarWinds is eliminating the need to rely on agent software or remote appliances to monitor network traffic in remote branch offices running Cisco equipment.

The ability to eliminate the need for agents and appliance stems from the fact that advances in multicore processors allows Cisco to run more management software directly on its equipment that can be analyzed via network management tools from companies such as SolarWinds.

Stevens said SolarWinds is considering support for other network equipment vendors that have added similar management functions to their network infrastructure equipment based on future customer demand.

Separately, SolarWinds today also released version 3.7 of the Orion Netflow Traffic Analyzer, which adds a faster Web interface and new reporting tools.
