EnterpriseDB Rolls out PostgreSQL Tools

Michael Vizard

As part of its ongoing efforts to position the PostgreSQL database as an open source alternative to Oracle, EnterpriseDB today launched Postgres Enterprise Manager, a set of tools for database administrators that allows them to better tune, manage and monitor PostgreSQL databases.

According to Karen Tegan Padir, EnterpriseDB vice president of products and marketing, as IT organizations consider lessening their dependency on Oracle they want to be sure that a robust set of tools for database administrators is available to manage PostgreSQL databases.

Postgres Enterprise Manager includes a dashboard for monitoring PostgreSQL databases, capacity planning tools and the ability to identify issues with SQL code.

EnterpriseDB provides a set of migration services for customers looking to migrate from either Oracle or MySQL databases, which Tegan Padir says is happening with greater frequency in response to the cost of Oracle licenses and concerns over Oracle strategy in the wake of its acquisition of Sun Microsystems.
