Emulex Provides Storage Visibility

Michael Vizard

Emulexwants to be seen as more than just a provider of storage hardware with the release today of a tool that analyzes storage traffic patterns.

Unveiled at Interop, OneCommand Vision leverages Emulex' storage expertise as the manufacturer of storage controllers and adapters that are widely used by system vendors to give IT organizations a tool for analyzing storage I/O performance across both virtual and physical servers.

Because the Emulex software operates at the device drive level, Shaun Walsh, Emulex vice president of corporate marketing, says OneCommand Vision is the first tool that can reliably predict I/O flow across not only storage components from Emulex, but those made by Brocade and Qlogic as well.

As more virtual machine software is deployed on physical servers, competition for I/O bandwidth is increasing. This situation is especially critical on blade servers running multiple virtual machines. The Emulex software, says Walsh, is designed to not only identify sources of bottleneck, but also provides information that IT organizations will need to justify any server upgrades.

Pricing for OneCommand Vision starts at $32,500 per 25 physical servers.
