The concept of the one-size-fits-all "as built" sheet accompanying new workstations may seem to have gone the way of the dodo, given the complexity of modern computing environments, but the need remains for a "master list" of how workstations in your environment were — or should be — built.
The Windows 7 As Built template (part of Toolkit Cafe's Windows 7 Upgrade Kit) provides just such a list by laying out the three main areas of concern that you'll want to track from the outset of configuring your workstation(s): core image, network and distribution. Use of this template creates a "snapshot" of your configuration at a specific time that keeps you focused when designing and helps you identify areas for improvement in the future — whether certain methods become "extinct" or not!
