Telecommuting Calculator

The purpose of this telecommuting calculator is to provide a quick approximation of your savings opportunity with telecommuting. It is based on a business model where employees who previously worked at your facility now work at home on a full-time basis, with only occasional visits.
The primary savings opportunity with telecommuting is the cost of space. Unless you can save at least 2,000 square feet (which equates to 8 - 12 employees), a telecommuting initiative won’t provide any substantial financial benefits. This is because 2,000 square feet is the smallest parcel that can be easily sublet to another company.
Programs that permit limited telecommuting, e.g. 1-2 days per week, fall into the same category. They can improve employees’ quality of life, boost morale and help with retention, but they won’t make an impact on the departmental budget.
