Microsoft is back on track offering Web downloads of Windows XP Service Pack 3 and auto-updates of Vista Service Pack 1 after a conflict was found with its retail management software, reports News.com blogger Ina Fried.
Both updates were found to be incompatible with its Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System. The company decided to make the service packs available after developing a filter to keep users with the retail management software from receiving them until it can work out a patch.
It says it hopes to get the patch out this month, but in the meantime, advises the retail software customers not to use either service pack. Retail software customers who have already installed either service pack should call customer support, it says.
