Quest Buying Out BakBone Software

Susan Hall

Quest Software has announced plans to acquire BakBone Software, which makes data-protection software, for about $55 million, which includes paying certain debt obligations, reports TechCrunch.

BakBone offers real-time continuous data protection, deduplication, replication, disk-based and tape backup and recovery software under the NetVault brand, according to enterprisestorageforum.com. In further consolidation of the storage market, Quest plans to meld that in with its own products for virtual, database and application-level data.

That article quotes Doug Garn, CEO and president of Quest Software, saying:

Our respective products are highly complementary, with minimal overlap.
