Novell Buys PlateSpin for $205 Million

Posted by Susan Hall Feb 26, 2008 10:16:53 AM

Novell  has agreed to buy virtualization-management software company PlateSpin for $205 million, reports internetnews.com.

ZDNet blogger Dan Kusnetzky wonders why, though, since he says Novell already owns a number of products in this space. The company, however, is calling the acquisition the missing piece of its virtualization puzzle.

The Register explains that PlateSpin sells three main products: PlateSpin Convert, a set of physical-to-virtual and virtual-to-physical tools; PowerRecon, software for billing and charge-back management; and PlateSpin Forge, a recovery appliance server. Its products are expected to compete with VMware's.
