Logitech to Buy Videoconferencing Startup

Posted by Susan Hall Nov 11, 2009 9:41:40 AM

Swiss computer-peripherals maker Logitech has agreed to buy Austin, Texas-based buy LifeSize Communications, which makes high-definition videoconferencing equipment, for $405 million in cash, reports The New York Times.

Logitech's video business so far has focused on webcams, according to an IDG story in The San Francisco Chronicle. This acquisition will put it into competition with the likes of Cisco, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and other major players.

It's a sweet exit for LifeSize's venture partners, who had put only $80 million into the company, according to The Wall Street Journal.
