Java Runtime Flaw 'as Bad as it Gets'

Susan Hall

Vulnerabilities in the Sun Java Runtime Environment threaten the security of all platforms, browsers and mobile devices, reports ZDNet.

Said Chris Gatford, a security expert from penetration testing company Pure Hacking:

"This is as bad as it gets. It's a pretty significant weakness, which will have a considerable impact if the exploit codes come to fruition quickly. It could affect a lot of organizations and users."

Sun recently patched JRE 5 and the Java 6 developer version, reports Dark Reading, but is still testing a patch for consumer users' version 6, saying it should be out this week.
