The server market experienced its most rapid growth since 2003, with Hewlett-Packard overtaking IBM as the top vendor, reports The Times of India.
According to numbers by IDC, revenues grew by 11 percent in the second quarter, to $10.9 billion, while shipments rose 23.8 percent over the same period last year.
However, PCWorld.com notes that revenue remains below 2008's record highs. It quotes IDC's Jean Bozman, research vice president for enterprise servers, as saying the growth is coming largely from volume servers, which it defines as those that cost less than $25,000. Demand for mid-range systems remained strong, but not so for high-end servers.
