IBM Rolls out Second Phase of Project Big Green

Posted by Ainsley Jones Jun 11, 2008 8:01:37 AM

In May 2007, Loraine Lawson of IT Business Edge mentioned IBM's Project Big Green in her post on why you should keep an eye on green technology.

A little more than a year later, IBM has announced the second phase of its $1 billion green tech initiative. According to this ChannelWeb article, at the heart of the latest rollout are three modular data centers between 5,000 and 20,000 square feet.

CNNMoney.com reports that the modular data centers can reduce energy consumption by as much as 50 percent. In addition, IBM unveiled new virtualization software, energy-efficient services centered around data center storage and virtualization and introduced a financing program to fund green data center projects.
