IBM Patents Remote Control for Social Networks, TV

Kara Reeder

According to InformationWeek, IBM has filed documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a patent for what it describes as a platform

"for automatic blogging of media viewing using an enhanced remote controller, suitable for use while viewing media programming and content."

Apparently, the platform would allow users to microblog on sites like Facebook and Twitter while watching TV.

"The enhanced remote controller allows the viewer to both communicate with a blogging server, and thus to a blogging service, as well as display responses to and from other bloggers with whom the viewer is communicating."

There is no word on if, or when, the device will be commercially produced.
