Hyper-V Falls Short on Must-Have Features, Burton Group Says

Posted by Susan Hall Sep 2, 2009 9:40:59 AM

Microsoft's Hyper-V software still won't fill the bill for most enterprise applications when it is shipped in October with Windows Server 2008 R2, the Burton Group has determined.

After comparing VMware's vSphere 4, Citrix's XenServer 5.5 and Microsoft's Hyper-V Server 2008 R2,  the analyst group determined Hyper-V will still lack three of the 27 essential features for enterprise applications running in production, reports PCWorld.com.

Its list of must-have features for running enterprise applications in a virtual environment includes high availability, live migration, memory management, security, networking, storage, licensing and power management. Before July, XenServer didn't fit the bill either, the story says.
