Gateway Ends Direct Sales

Susan Hall

Gateway on Friday announced the end of direct sales of PCs, moving to the indirect sales model of its new parent company, Acer.

The company said computers no longer will be available through its Web site, requiring customers to go through third-party stores or other online retailers, reports PCWorld.com.

Long known for its direct sales model, Gateway was bought out by Acer last year in a deal worth about $710 million. A spokeswoman said all of Gateway's brands still will be available.
