Facebook Faces Patent Infringement Suit

Posted by Kara Reeder Oct 9, 2009 11:58:39 AM

Facebook is facing a lawsuit by Phoenix Media/Communications for allegedly violating a patent related to setting up online personal profile pages, reports The Boston Globe. Phoenix Media claims that Facebook's “computer network and method of creating and sharing a personal page" violates one of its patents. There is no word on what damages the company is seeking.

William Heller, a patent lawyer with an office in Boston, says such lawsuits are not unusual:

Facebook and other larger and successful companies are targets of these lawsuits by virtue of their success and notoriety.
