Equinix, which provides data center and interconnection services, has announced plans to add two data centers, reports The San Jose Mercury News.

It will build a $145 million, 170,000-square-foot data center in San Jose, Calif., and a $100 million project spanning more than 150,000 square feet in Ashburn, Va. The Virginia site will be built out in phases, with $30 million being spent in 2009, according to The Data Center Journal.

The Mercury News says Equinix plans to spend about $1.4 billion to expand in 15 of its 18 markets. The company already operates five data centers spanning more than 470,000 square feet in the Washington, D.C., area and four data centers in Silicon Valley encompassing more than 500,000 square feet, reports CoStar Group.
