Cisco Exits Market for WiMax Base Stations

WiMax takes another blow with Cisco's announcement that it will stop making WiMax base stations and will concentrate on IP networks instead, reports Computerworld. The news favors Long Term Evolution, which IT Business Edge's Carl Weinschenk calls the 4G technology of the future. He says WiMax seems destined to be a niche player.


InfoWorld says Cisco will still produce IP core and WiMax products such as Wi-Fi and femtocells for WiMax customers, however.
