Broadcom Buys Security Vendor SC Square

Chip maker Broadcom is buying smart card vendor SC Square for $41.9 million in cash, according to Computerworld. The deal is expected to close by June 30, 2011.


ITProPortal reports that SC Square specializes in smart cards used in e-health cards, debit and credit cards, passports as well as identity cards. In a press release, Broadcom says:

With SC Square Ltd., Broadcom is acquiring an expert team of engineers focused on security, which is an essential ingredient across Broadcom platforms. This acquisition is part of Broadcom's strategy to acquire innovative technologies and high quality teams with a solid track record of execution.
