Apple Updates Safari Browser

Susan Hall

Apple on Tuesday released version 3.1 of its Safari browser for both Mac and Windows as a free download, reports News.com.

Safari 3.1 adds support for the new video and audio tags in HTML 5, and supports CSS Animations and CSS Web Fonts, notes Macworld.

Apple says Safari loads Web pages 1.9 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and 1.7 times faster than Firefox 2. The company also says Safari runs JavaScript up to six times faster than other browsers.

Users running Mac OS X Leopard or Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.11 can download the new browser. Windows users will need to be running Windows XP or Windows Vista.
