UK Readies Itself for National Work from Home Day

Posted by Ainsley Jones May 13, 2008 8:56:15 AM

This upcoming Thursday, May 15, workers from Belfast, Northern Ireland to Wolverhampton, England will take part in National Work from Home Day.

BusinessGreen reports that upwards of 5 million people will take part. Research from Britain's Trade Union Congress shows that nearly 3.5 million people are already working from home in the UK, an increase of 600,000 workers over the past 10 years.

Work Wise UK, a non-profit that encourages the adoption of smarter working practices, is advising companies on National Work from Home Day through its Web site. Work Wise UK chief executive Phil Flaxton extolled the virtues of telecommuting, saying the increased flexibility leads to a more productive workforce.

Working from home also reduces the amount of people making a daily commute. The American Electronics Agency recently urged companies to expand their telecommuting policies for the betterment of the environment.
