Microsoft Cuts 800 More Jobs

Posted by Susan Hall Nov 4, 2009 4:13:00 PM

Microsoft is laying off 800 more people, completing the staff reduction initially announced in January. But the final total reached 5,800 rather than 5,000, according to The Seattle Times' Brier Dudley.

He says 200 jobs were cut in the Seattle area, with the remainder in operations globally. TechFlash quotes Microsoft spokesman Lou Gellos saying the cuts were "pretty much across the board." It says the company also did not rule out other layoffs later on, though it said this round is complete.

The Wall Street Journal put the total number cut at 6.3 percent of the company's approximately 91,000 total staff, rather than the 5.5 percent announced previously.
