The Philippines has become the world's leading offshoring destination for call center work, reports BusinessWeek.

According to outsourcing advisers the Everest Group, the Philippines this year will earn $5.7 billion for call center work from the United States, Europe and Australia, while companies in India will take in $5.5 billion. The Philippine government, meanwhile, puts those numbers at $5.5 billion for the Philippines, versus $5.3 billion for India, according to the Hindustan Times.

Tata Consultancy Services, one of the Indian giants in the industry, has just launched a business process outsourcing operation in Manila.

India, however, still holds the lead in overall outsourcing revenues: $70 billion, versus $9 billion for the Philippines.
