Google is growing in the Seattle area to accommodate its massive hiring plans, reports The Seattle Times. Blogger Dudley Brier writes that Google is expanding its campus in the Fremont neighborhood by leasing 30,000 square feet and in Kirkland, it's moving workers into a third building leased in 2009 that adds about 75,000 square feet.
He says employment at the two sites doubled last year to about 800, with about 100 hires expected this year. The company has announced plans to add at least 6,000 workers worldwide this year and in one week received more than 75,000 resumes.
Another eye-popping stat from Brier's post: Seattle startups such as SEOmoz and EnergySavvy have been offering referral bounties of $10,000 to $12,000 as they seek to compete for talent.
