Former Google CIO out at EMI

Doug Merrill, Google's former CIO and vice president of engineering, has jumped ship from his new job as president of digital and COO of EMI New Music, reports eWEEK.

Neither side is saying much about it, but the company has decided not to operate a standalone digital division, according to CNET News.

All Things Digital has the company memo on Merrill's departure. Cory Ondrejka, one of the founders of Second Life, is now the top exec in digital, though EMI has stressed that he's not replacing Merrill.
