User Ignorance Fuels the Threat of Botnets

Posted by Ainsley Jones Apr 11, 2008 8:13:53 AM

The National Cyber Security Alliance published a research report yesterday that revealed 71 percent of consumers are blind to protecting themselves against botnets. That's an alarming percentage and is probably a major factor in botnets becoming the weapon of choice. Consumers' lack of awareness makes the prevention of cyber crime more difficult, says this vnunet article.

What's more troubling is that these same consumers are bringing their aloofness into the workplace. It's no wonder that insider threats have moved ahead of viruses as the most reported security incidents and serve as strong reasoning for companies to conduct an overall change in how they think about security.
