Two Trojans Threaten Macs

Posted by Kara Reeder Jan 28, 2009 10:59:34 AM

Macs have been hit by two Trojan horses, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The first was discovered last week by security firm Intego and affects versions of Apple's iWork 09 productivity software downloaded from BitTorrent, says Apple Insider. Intego warns of  "extremely serious consequences" if a Mac is infected by what it's calling OSX.Trojan.iServices.A.

The second is a variant of the first and is hidden inside pirated copies of Adobe Systems' Photoshop CS4 For Mac. Named OSX.Trojan.iServices.B, the Trojan lurks in the serial-number generator and allows remote attacks, according to PC Magazine.

So far, nearly 20,000 people have downloaded the infected iWork 09 software, while more than 5,000 downloaded the pirated Photoshop, estimates Intego.
