Security firm Trusteer is offering a new service called Pinpoint that can detect the presence of malware on endpoints, without the need for the endpoint itself to run any software, reports v3.co.uk.
Pinpoint uses a cloud database to spot specific malware behavior. Trusteer vice president of products, Yaron Dycian, explains:
We put a sensor on the bank's website, and this detects specific behaviors in incoming traffic from endpoints ... It sends the behavioral signature it picks up to the cloud, which compares them with the database and sends back a response telling the server whether that endpoint is infected or not.
The bank can then choose what action to take, which includes blocking the login and displaying a message asking the customer to contact a call center.
Trusteer claims Pinpoint currently achieves an 80 percent detection rate and has zero false positives. Licensing starts at $10,000 per year for up to 300 users.
